CURRENT OFFERINGS INCLUDE:

Teach Them to Think, Not Merely to Perform- (PR0224)

Universities are not asking for students who have already learned everything the university has to offer.  They only want students who have been taught how to learn and think.  Students who when faced with problems in an unfamiliar context can self-correct their own thinking, adapt, and succeed.  Not students trained to imitate and to perform in exchange for grades, who become confused when the conditions and context are not identical to secondary school.  The universities want thinkers and learners, not performers.  This presentation explains how to get there.  Accommodates up to 200 participants.

Rubrics:  A Fresh Look- (PR0163)

Of course, we’ve all been taught that an integral part of authentic assessment is the creation of fair, objective, and transparent rubrics, but is that really happening?  What does that really mean, and do we really need them?  Are rubrics over-applied?  The sad truth is most rubrics, even those constructed by the best, most dedicated, and fair-minded teachers, authors, and consultants are often not any less subjective than grading without one.  This workshop takes a hard look at rubrics.  When should we use them and when shouldn't we?  What are their strengths and weaknesses and how can we improve learning with their use and when do they actually retard learning?  Accommodates up to 200 participants.

Time and Resource Management:  Enough Meetings Already!- (WK0014)

Armed with books such as Stop the Meeting I Want to Get Off! by Scott Snair, we know already that meetings are often over-staffed and too frequent.  In fact, they are almost always a sign of poor management and leadership.  Not because people are lazy, but because we have learned how to run our organizations from the people who ran them last.  This workshop is designed for anyone who feels too much time is being lost in meetings.  Alternative methods of achieving what we think we're achieving in meetings are taught in a hands-on way.  Accommodates up to 50 participants.
